Lou
Lou is a blood pressure monitor with the goal of simplifying health monitoring for any user. We were tasked with improving on the Omron 5 Series blood pressure monitor (the external housing, user experience, and product lifecycle.)
1. Research
Our research started with the product teardown of an existing Omron 5 Series blood pressure monitor. We evaluated the internal components and took measurements to set the foundation for well-informed sketches and ideation. We then conducted a market analysis of similar products to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each.
2. Sketching and Ideation
Based on the research we gathered, we were ready to start sketching. We had also identified some key hardpoints to keep in mind:
a user-friendly modern interface
integrated cuff storage
simple and clear assembly/ disassembly
Initial Ideation
Three promising directions
Final Design
3. Prototyping and CAD
After developing a design that satisfied the user’s need as well as the desired assembly method, we proceeded to test the design and begin building in Solidworks.
cuff storage solution
Defining our product language
Mold flow analysis
Exploded View
Order of Assembly
4. UX and UI Design
We identified that an app would be a beneficial addition to help organize data, set reminders, and create a platform to communicate with a doctor.
